Annie the Beetle

Kathleen Brooks bought her 1967 VW Beetle "Annie" for $2,300 at age 21 and never looked back. Over 50+ years and 350,000 miles, Annie carried her through marriages, job changes, a home purchase, and three bouts with breast cancer. When Kathleen's story caught Volkswagen's attention, they offered to restore Annie at the original Puebla factory in Mexico, where a team of 60 volunteers spent 11 months returning her to better-than-new condition.

The resulting 7-minute film went viral, racking up 3 million views across VW's social platforms, 127,000+ social shares, and coverage from outlets like Yahoo and Fox News, all before taking home multiple Emmy, Webby, and Shorty Awards and over 1.3 billion media impressions. Proof that the best marketing doesn't feel like marketing at all.
